Bio

Sofia Kondylia is an Athens based dancer and architect, graduate of NTUA Architecture School and “Rallou Manou” Professional Dance School. Following lifelong development (2007 – 2018) through dance, improvisation, choreography, theater and pedagogical workshops, as well as collaborations, she now works as an independent dance artist and educator. Her research interests include cross arts performance composition, as well as pedagogical research.

In dance she has collaborated with P. Faura, Les gens d’Uterpan, A. Stellatou, E. Papadopoulou, P. Kremasta, P. Iliaskou, K. Bacca,  Y. Karounis, a.o. In theater she has collaborated with K. Kyvetou and G. Simonas. She has also worked with musicians S. Syminelakis and P. Ntzialas.

During 2014-2015 she created the piece “Between Me”, which was presented at 5th AVDP, SCALE 1:100 and «14η MERA» Art Space.

From 2011 until now she conducts “Architecture + Dance” interdisciplinary research exploring the coupling of the two arts in artistic creation and pedagogy.

During 2015-2016 she codified some results of this research in “Architecture + Dance” research workshop and lecture performance “Human Constructions”. Until today, outcomes of this research have been presented in: Stockholm Fringe Festival 2017-Sweden, Dance Waves Festival 2016-Cyprus, Dance Days Chania 2017, 5th Greek Contemporary Dance Platform Athens Concert Hall, 2nd Inport Festival Municipality of Piraeus, NTUA Architecture School, Lavrion Cultural Technological Park and more.

In 2016-2017 she participated in Munich Biennale of New Music Theater 2018 / SGT Onassis Cultural Center international platform for young creators. Moreover, during 2016-2017 she created  a bilingual (GR/EN) version of her last piece, “Human Constructions” and she represented Duncan Dance Research Center at INDA Foundation annual symposium in Syracuse, giving a lecture as a related artist.

She has been a foundation member of “Skytali” educational plan from 2012 until 2017, introducing creative movement to primary school children.  In 2017-2018 she started teaching contemporary dance, improvisation and movement at Keratsini-Drapetsona Artistic Secondary School as a full-time contemporary and improvisation dance educator. Additionally, she periodically collaborates with various Athens dance spaces and schools giving improvisation, contemporary and classical classes as well.

At present she works on her two new pieces “Asle e p” and “BodIS” (site-specific), which are artistic research on the body’s substantial need for psychosomatic relaxation and choreographic continuation of “Architecture + Dance” research.

Finally, she is a foundation member of “Trial + Error” non-profit company since 2017 and a member of the Greek Choreographers Association (GCA) and SEXWXO Association since 2016.
